Just about anyone from any side of life with a brain on their shoulders needs to be able to see tyranny unfolding. Religious bigotry in this country is really starting to run amok. I live in Texas and see it up close (too close - in my own family). It's restricting my kids' education, infecting state government, bringing intolerance and hatred to national levels - I used to think religion could be safely ignored because "those" people were well-intentioned at heart.
